Factory internships are no longer just about cold parts processing! The "Factory Internship" course, taught by Professor Hsiao Chun-Ching in the Department of Mechanical Design and Engineering at National Huwei University of Science and Technology, recently showcased students' innovative works simultaneously in the atrium of the Arts Center and on the fifth floor of the library. This exhibition breaks down traditional craft boundaries, guiding students to infuse their paper art creations with a hands-on spirit, resulting in a series of stunning paper sculptures including a powerful tank, a lively fox, and a majestic Tyrannosaurus Rex.
From Internship to Artistic Realm: A Magnificent Transformation of Precision Craftsmanship
Professor Hsiao Chun-Ching, a senior expert in industry-academia collaboration and precision machinery at National Hugo University of Science and Technology, not only taught basic processing techniques and process logic in this "Factory Internship" course, but also emphasized the deep integration of "design thinking" and "hands-on practice." Professor Hsiao pointed out that paper sculpture creation and mechanical processing have similarities, and both can reflect the spirit of craftsmanship, from the geometric logic of the unfolded diagram to the precision during assembly.
Exhibition Highlights: Beasts and Armor on Paper
The most captivating works in this exhibition include:
• Heavy Armor Tank: Through intricate folds and interlocking mechanisms, the structure of a tank is recreated, showcasing a masculine industrial aesthetic.
• Origami Fox: Capturing the fox's agile posture, this piece demonstrates the students' mastery of biological form transformation and curved surface representation.
• Prehistoric Tyrannosaurus Rex: The enormous paper-sculpted skeleton and muscular lines become the most eye-catching visual focus of the exhibition, concretely demonstrating the students' three-dimensional spatial design abilities.
• Also featured are wonderful works such as seals, jeeps, Shiba Inus, monkeys, pandas, cows, and deer heads.
