In order to strengthen the professional capacity of counseling and guidance work at colleges and universities, promote the exchange of experience among administrators from various institutions, and advance mental health policy alongside a showcase of counseling space renovation outcomes, the Ministry of Education's "Academic Year 114 National Conference of College and University Counseling Directors (Division Chiefs)" was entrusted to National Formosa University for organization. The event brought together nearly 180 attendees, including directors (division chiefs) from colleges and universities nationwide as well as personnel from the four regional Counseling Work Coordination and Consultation Centers, and concluded successfully after a two-day event on 8/29 (Friday).
The opening ceremony on the first day of the event was chaired by Wu Lin-Hui, Director-General of the Ministry of Education's Department of Student Affairs and Special Education, with NFU Vice President Chen Ta-Cheng also welcoming attendees on-site. During the event, plaques of appreciation were presented to 32 senior directors (division chiefs) who have served for more than three years, recognizing their long-term dedication. Representatives from the North Region 1, North Region 2, Central Region, and South Region Counseling Coordination Centers also shared their experiences from this year's study visit to Japan on promoting mental health initiatives. The event also featured group discussions organized around three major themes: "Psychological and Cultural Adjustment of International Students," "Counseling and Intervention Models for Students with Special Education Needs," and "Recruitment of Full-Time Interns and Advancing Group Counseling Strategies," with attendees actively engaging in lively discussion.
In response to the Ministry of Education's mental health policy initiatives, the event included a visit to NFU's Student Counseling Center, showcasing the outcomes of its participation in the "Learning Beauty, Cultivating the Heart — Renovation Project for College and University Counseling Spaces" program. NFU specially invited the renovation design team to share their design concepts and led attendees on a hands-on tour of the counseling space, which combines professionalism with a warm atmosphere, making it a major highlight of the event.
On the second day of the event, Professor Kuo Li-An of National Changhua University of Education delivered a lecture on "Addressing Sexual Trauma," helping attendees deepen their understanding of the various manifestations of sexual trauma, while emphasizing the importance of cross-disciplinary collaboration models to enhance professional sensitivity and practical response capabilities.
Lin Yi-Chuan, NFU's Dean of Student Affairs, noted that the Student Counseling Center's organization of this large-scale national conference was made possible through the support of directors and division chiefs from all participating institutions, as well as the team's careful planning, allowing attendees to fully engage in learning and exchange within a comfortable environment, injecting new energy into counseling work for the new academic year.
