National Formosa University participated in the "2nd National Wind Power Cup — Green Electricity Innovation and Net-Zero Creative Practice Competition" on 11/27 (Wednesday). Led by Assistant Professor Kao Jui-Hung of the Department of Aircraft Engineering, the team won 2nd place, demonstrating outstanding capability in innovative wind energy design.
The competition was held at Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology, divided into a Systems Category and a Blade Category, with each category further divided into preliminary and final rounds based on horizontal-axis and vertical-axis designs. A total of 19 teams from 6 schools participated. The preliminary round evaluated criteria including design creativity, feasibility, level of detail, and adherence to theoretical logic. In the finals, teams were required to submit a model demonstrating their practical results, evaluated based on the consistency between the device and its design concept, the accumulated power generation measured during on-site testing, device dimensions, and energy conversion efficiency.
NFU's drone team won 2nd place in the "Blade Category — Vertical Axis" with their project "Small Vertical-Axis Wind Turbine Blade Design." The blade design adopted an S809 airfoil profile, improving aerodynamic and torque performance, and became the largest blade design in the competition, successfully increasing power generation efficiency. Supervising instructor Kao Jui-Hung stated that students used 3D printing to bring the design to life, a process that relied heavily on precise structural drawings and required careful consideration of assembly tolerances to overcome challenges related to structural strength and weight. He also thanked Research and Development Dean Yang Shou-Yin for supporting and rewarding students' participation in domestic and international hands-on competitions.
NFU President Chang Hsin-Liang stated that, in light of global sustainable energy and net-zero goals, helping industries cultivate professional talent equipped with sustainability and carbon-reduction expertise has become a critical issue. He noted that NFU will continue to advance developments in green electricity innovation, carbon reduction, and smart energy conservation through ongoing exchange and collaboration between industry and academia.
