National Formosa University held its Academic Year 113 Higher Education Sprout Project Achievement Exhibition on 1/15 (Wednesday), themed "Educational Twins — Activating AI Empowerment," showcasing how artificial intelligence has been integrated into education, breaking down the boundaries between physical and virtual classrooms and promoting student learning autonomy. The exhibition featured more than 60 booths presenting achievements in teaching innovation, R&D development, and industry-academia collaboration, and also invited local calligraphers and elderly community members to write and give away customized Spring Festival couplets on-site, deepening local connections and creating a lively, warm atmosphere.
NFU has integrated smart technology into its promotion of the Higher Education Sprout Project. In terms of curriculum, the university supports faculty and students in developing smart devices and systems to solve industry pain points, using technology to bring convenience to everyday life. In terms of campus facilities, the university continues to optimize campus spaces, designing diverse programming courses for students. In terms of faculty development, the university has actively integrated AI tools into course design, supporting fully English-taught instruction and workshops.
NFU President Chang Hsin-Liang stated that the university's Higher Education Sprout Project receives approximately NT$240 million in funding each year, ranking among the top 4 national universities of science and technology. He also noted that the university's drone R&D capacity has secured support from the Ministry of Education's Drone Base Program and AI Empowerment Program, and that the university's culture of sports has earned recognition from local institutions, which have sponsored the construction of a basketball gymnasium. He noted that outstanding results have been achieved across all fronts, with strong recognition in the "Most Preferred University Graduates by Employers" survey and broader social evaluations, all thanks to the dedication of faculty and students, as well as the outstanding performance of alumni across various industries. He expressed hope that the university will continue to deepen the integration of AI technology into institutional administration going forward.
Hsiao Wen-Ching, President of NFU's Alumni Association, stated that this exhibition demonstrates the university's innovative breakthroughs in integrating AI with education. As an alumna, she expressed her happiness that younger students now have access to cutting-edge technology, and noted that the Alumni Association will also connect resources to provide younger students with more internship and industry mentorship opportunities. Wu Li-Chun, President of the Yizhixiang'ai Community Care Association, stated that community elders have devoted themselves this past year to learning calligraphy, traditional Chinese painting, and coffee brewing, and expressed happiness at being able to co-host this achievement exhibition with the university. She noted that their team has also been working with the Ministry of Culture to promote Taiwanese language and literature, and expressed hope for future collaboration with the university.
Among the exhibition's AI highlights was the "Neck and Shoulder Health Detection System Combined with AI Edge Computing," which addresses the modern problem of prolonged sitting by using AI edge computing technology to develop a smart device that reminds users in real time to adjust their posture, promoting a healthier lifestyle. The "Smart Green Energy House" combines solar power, energy storage systems, energy-efficient glass, greywater recycling systems, and sensors, allowing visitors to experience how green energy technology can improve energy efficiency and achieve sustainable development.
In addition, the "Smart Agriculture Challenge" used technologies such as automated irrigation and drone monitoring to allow visitors to simulate greenhouse management and understand the impact of weather on crops. "Local Industry Value Upgrading and Carbon Inventory" focused on electric vehicle and smart control technology, developing innovative products such as brake discs and electric side mirrors, generating more than NT$8 million in production value to support the transformation and upgrading of small and medium-sized enterprises.
This year's achievement exhibition was organized around six major themes: "Co-Learning in Education," which promotes cross-disciplinary practical and diverse innovative courses, emphasizing flexibility and autonomy in learning; "Co-Creation in Research," focusing on precision medicine, sports science, and green energy applications; "Co-Sharing in Sustainability," which integrates new immigrant culture with the role of a local think tank to build a friendly and mutually thriving sustainable society; "Co-Building in Industry-Academia Collaboration," which promotes cross-industry cooperation and connects industry, academia, and research to add value to industrial innovation; "Co-Empathy Among Youth," which incorporates Indigenous cultural characteristics to encourage students to care about and embrace multicultural diversity; and "Co-Inclusion Internationally," which uses games to promote cross-cultural exchange and understanding.
The exhibition also incorporated a variety of hands-on experience activities, including power car crafting, colorful light-sensing paper lanterns, artisan handicrafts, and food and agriculture education. Local calligraphers and older community members from the Huwei Station Community Care Site were specially invited to write customized Spring Festival couplet blessings and brew coffee on-site, showcasing not only NFU's expertise in smart technology, but also its exchange and mutual growth with the wisdom of the local senior community.
