NFU Partners with Industry, Government, and Academia to Strengthen High-End Manufacturing Capacity — Results of the 3rd CNC Multi-Axis Machine Skills Competition Announced

National Formosa University, Victor Taichung Machinery Works Co., Ltd., and the Central Taiwan Branch of the Workforce Development Agency, Ministry of Labor, jointly organized the 3rd "Victor Taichung Machinery Cup CNC Multi-Axis Machine Skills Competition," with the finals concluding successfully on 5/18 (Sunday). This year's competition offered a total prize pool of NT$900,000, with the first-place prize alone reaching NT$100,000, attracting 33 teams from 11 colleges and technical/vocational schools nationwide — reflecting the shared commitment of industry, government, and academia to advanced manufacturing and technical talent cultivation.

This year's competition featured two main categories: the "Turn-Mill Composite Machining Category" and the "5-Axis Machine Category." The competition was organized by NFU, with the questions set by Victor Taichung Machinery's Customer Value Creation Application Center. In the preliminary round, participating teams were required to independently complete the machining of a workpiece and present their manufacturing process. The finals were held at the Central Taiwan Branch, where teams performed hands-on machining using designated equipment available on-site, testing their precision and adaptability under time constraints.

Participating schools included National Taiwan University of Science and Technology, National Chin-Yi University of Technology, National Yunlin University of Science and Technology, National Formosa University, National United University, Vanung University, Cheng Shiu University, as well as Songshan Vocational High School, Dajia Senior High School, and Tsaotun Vocational High School, among others, resulting in fierce competition. After intense rounds of competition, the top three places in the "Turn-Mill Composite Machining Category" were awarded to Dajia Senior High School, Lunghwa University of Science and Technology, and National Chin-Yi University of Technology. In the "5-Axis Machine Category," the top three places were swept by two teams from National Formosa University and one team from Cheng Shiu University. The organizers presented trophies and certificates on-site to encourage participants to continue advancing their technical skills.

NFU President Chang Hsin-Liang stated that NFU has always placed great importance on cultivating students' cross-disciplinary integration and practical hands-on skills. He noted that the multi-axis machine skills competition is not merely a contest of a single technical skill, but a real-world exercise integrating the fields of mechanical engineering, electrical/information technology, design, and management. He emphasized that this competition serves not only as a concrete example of collaboration among industry, government, and academia, but also as an important platform for students to gain firsthand exposure to the front lines of industry and put their professional knowledge to the test. He expressed hope that the university will continue to expand opportunities for cross-disciplinary collaboration in the future, cultivating more outstanding talent equipped with practical skills and innovative thinking for Taiwan's manufacturing industry.

Victor Taichung Machinery Chairman Huang Ming-Ho stated that since its founding, the Victor Taichung Machinery Cup CNC Multi-Axis Machine Skills Competition has upheld its original mission of promoting industry-government-academia collaboration and cultivating advanced machining talent. This year marks its 3rd edition, attracting a total of 33 teams, reflecting academia's strong interest in and support for multi-axis machining technology. He noted that amid global economic shifts and challenges of industrial transformation, 5-axis and multi-axis machining have become core technologies central to precision manufacturing. He expressed his firm belief that only through continued investment in talent cultivation can Taiwan steadily advance amid future competition, and hopes that this competition platform will provide more young technical talent with opportunities for hands-on practice and mutual exchange, further strengthening Taiwan's manufacturing capabilities and driving the industry toward smart, high-value development.

Liu Hsiu-Chen, Director of the Central Taiwan Branch of the Workforce Development Agency, Ministry of Labor, pointed out that in response to the issue of net-zero carbon reduction, the branch has reconsidered its existing training approach, investing in the introduction and upgrading of smart automation equipment. She noted that, especially amid rising labor allocation costs and increasing uncertainty surrounding migrant labor, providing companies with the mid- to high-level technical talent needed for transformation and improving automated production line layouts has become an important shift for many businesses in the post-pandemic era. To help cultivate advanced machining technical talent from an early stage, she expressed her pleasure in continuing to partner with Victor Taichung Machinery and NFU to jointly cultivate Taiwan's next generation of advanced machining talent.
