National Formosa University and Mingwang Technology Group (ABONMAX, stock code 2429) held a signing ceremony for an industry-academia cooperation MOU on 9/23 (Tuesday), with NFU President Chang Hsin-Liang and Mingwang Technology Chairman Chou Wei-Kun signing on behalf of their respective organizations, formally launching multiple collaborative initiatives including the "AI Drone Image Detection and Tracking System Development" project. Lu Che-Pin, Chairman of Hongyang Technology Co., Ltd., was also in attendance, witnessing the two parties' combination of technology R&D and talent cultivation to jointly build a new milestone for Taiwan's drone self-reliance.
NFU President Chang Hsin-Liang stated that drones are a key strategic technology for national defense and industrial upgrading, and that this technical collaboration between academia and industry can truly be described as a "powerhouse partnership." He noted that NFU places great emphasis on both R&D and practical capabilities, and that the drones it develops can, after fine-tuning by the company, reach a standard suitable for actual flight and even deployment in battlefield applications.
Mingwang Technology Chairman Chou Wei-Kun stated that, amid the global wave of intelligentization and low-carbon sustainability, technological innovation is not only a matter of corporate competitiveness, but also an important responsibility for protecting society and shaping the future. He noted that Mingwang has long been deeply engaged in AI algorithms, drone flight control, and sensor fusion technology, applying these achievements to the fields of drones and smart agriculture. He emphasized: "No matter how powerful the technology, it still requires talent to bring it to life. Only by combining industry experience with academic capability can we go further and more steadily."
This "AI Drone Image Detection and Tracking System Development" project will be led by NFU's Department of Aircraft Engineering team, responsible for R&D in AI image recognition, swarm flight control, and system integration, combined with Mingwang Technology's industry know-how and mass production capability. It is hoped that this collaboration will not only advance Taiwan's technological breakthroughs in the field of smart aviation, but also cultivate a new generation of talent with cross-disciplinary capabilities in AI and drone technology.
Chang concluded by emphasizing that the drone industry involves the integration of diverse technologies, and expressed hope that this collaboration will not only expand industry development and respond to industry needs, but also jointly help establish drones as a "second silicon shield" driving Taiwan's economic, national defense, and social development.
