National Formosa University is investing NT$350 million to build Yunlin's first multi-functional basketball arena meeting international competition standards, with the Feng Tay Charity Foundation contributing NT$150 million in sponsorship. Both parties held a signing ceremony for the arena donation on 1/8 (Wednesday), with NFU President Chang Hsin-Liang and Feng Tay Charity Foundation Chairman Lin Chin-Yang signing the donation agreement on behalf of their respective organizations, jointly committing to cultivating athletic talent and promoting a culture of sports in Yunlin.
NFU's newly planned basketball arena will span two floors: the first floor will serve as a multi-functional court for basketball, volleyball, and badminton, used for classes and training, while the second floor will be a dedicated competition-grade basketball court, equipped with home and visiting team locker rooms, a referee room, a weight training room, and a sports medicine center — providing comprehensive training and recovery support for NFU's basketball team, which has achieved strong results in the University Basketball Association league over the past two years.
The first-floor basketball and volleyball courts will meet national competition standards, while the second-floor basketball court will be built to professional international competition standards, equipped with media broadcasting facilities and capable of seating 1,500 spectators. The overall project is expected to be completed in 2028.
NFU President Chang Hsin-Liang stated that cultivating students is not just about professional development — through the renovation of facilities and the promotion of activities, the university also hopes to cultivate students' character, extending their positive influence to the broader Huwei community. He particularly noted that since NFU is located adjacent to the Huwei community, local residents are welcome to visit the facility at any time. He also expressed hope that the new arena will help boost Yunlin's culture of sports, and that it may one day serve as a venue for international competitions in Huwei — or even in Yunlin as a whole — allowing the public to participate together.
Feng Tay Charity Foundation Chairman Lin Chin-Yang stated that the foundation has partnered with NFU for two years now to promote basketball training camps for elementary and junior high school students, inviting national-level coaches alongside an assistant coaching team formed by NFU basketball players to train talented young basketball players from across the county. He noted that through this sponsorship of the new arena — built to international competition standards — the foundation hopes to take concrete action in supporting the county's athletic development, deepening its partnership with NFU to continue training and refining basketball talent in an excellent environment. He added that if large-scale basketball tournaments could eventually be brought to Yunlin, it would inspire even more young students to pursue their athletic dreams.
Feng Tay Enterprises is a sponsor of NFU's Men's Basketball Team and expressed support for the university's overall plan for athletic development. Deputy Chairman Wang Chien-Jung, who also serves as the team's manager, expressed hope that NFU's basketball team can positively bring together the Huwei community. He noted that athletes are not just athletes — players also have many other avenues for growth, such as through the integration of sports technology projects with the team, allowing the team and the university to mutually reinforce one another, with overall benefits across the board.
Chang also noted that the basketball team's outstanding performance has attracted even more talented individuals to come to Huwei. Regarding the university's shortage of facilities, he thanked Deputy Chairman Wang Chien-Jung of Feng Tay Enterprises, who also serves as the university's basketball team manager, for facilitating the connection with the Feng Tay Charity Foundation, and also thanked the foundation for jointly helping to complete this facility.
