National Formosa University held an unveiling ceremony for its university-level "Advanced Mechatronics Laboratory" on 1/21 (Tuesday). Global automation leader Beckhoff Automation, a German company, sponsored NFU with an XTS magnetic levitation transport system valued at over NT$2 million, enhancing the laboratory's facilities. NFU President Chang Hsin-Liang and Wang Sui-Chun, General Manager of Beckhoff's Taiwan subsidiary, jointly unveiled the lab, expressing both parties' shared commitment to cultivating smart technology talent and promoting the development of the smart manufacturing industry.

NFU President Chang Hsin-Liang stated that NFU was founded on engineering and electrical/information technology fields, with 80% of the university's departments belonging to this domain. He noted that the university currently has approximately 12,000 students in total, with students from the College of Engineering and College of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science accounting for 80% of that number, reflecting both the scale of development in this field at NFU and students' strong demand for specialized professional resources.

To help students make more effective use of on-campus resources, Chang noted that NFU has broken down departmental boundaries, integrating space and capacity across departments, and partnering with businesses to jointly build university-level laboratories. He explained that the establishment of this "Advanced Mechatronics Laboratory" will not only cultivate students' professional skills, but also familiarize them with industry-standard equipment, allowing them, after training, to enter the workforce directly and achieve seamless integration with industry. He thanked Beckhoff for its support and expressed hope for a long-term partnership with the company going forward.

Wang Sui-Chun, General Manager of Beckhoff Taiwan, also spoke at the ceremony, praising NFU's spirit of continuously pursuing new technologies. He stated that NFU's investment in cultivating talent for magnetic levitation transport systems also marks an important milestone for Beckhoff in Taiwan. He noted that although this system was invented more than a decade ago, its current industry applications span biomedicine, electronics, semiconductors, and even traditional industries, with an increasingly broad scope of application. He expressed confidence that introducing such a forward-looking system would greatly benefit students' future development.

Wang further explained that Beckhoff's headquarters also places strong emphasis on talent cultivation. He revealed that several industry partners have already expressed demand for talent familiar with Beckhoff systems, and that the establishment of this laboratory will help meet that demand. He noted that Beckhoff is glad to serve as a bridge between the university and industry, expanding industry-academia collaboration between the two parties and promoting the exchange and recruitment of talent.
